Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.” -Warren Buffett

I ran across this quote today as I was researching Temp employment companies. I like it. I’ve got some habits, some bad, heavy habits. I am aware of them, and I am working on them. One habit I have is the need for everything to be just right…uhm…I mean perfect…if it’s not, I have trouble moving forward. Another bad, heavy habit I have is I make excuses instead of taking responsibility, but I’m sure that’s not my fault. I’m also in the habit of procrastinating. I’ll work on that tomorrow. My point is, even though my bad heavy habits are making me crazy, I still need a job so I have to push through…tomorrow…if everything lines up…

Thanks for listening…do you prefer paper or plastic?

February 27, 2011

I decided to ride the newly opened section of the Inter County Connector (ICC) today while it’s still free. Kind of anti climactic. It’s a road, even if it’s the nicest road in Montgomery Co, it’s still just a road. I rode from Georgia AV near Olney, to Shady Grove RD. It took about 7 min at 60mph.  During my 7 min ride I saw 3 people pulled over, 2 on the way out, and 1 on the way home.

On the way home i decided to take it past Georgia AV to where it ends at RT 28 Norbeck RD. After I got off on Norbeck RD to take some pictures, I got back on the ICC to take it back to my Georgia Av exit. Guess what? Once I got back on at 28, I couldn’t get off at Georgia AV. I had to take it all the way back to Shady Grove RD, get off, turn around and get back on. Fail. I’m sure it’s temporarily closed…right?

Funk Ark

February 26, 2011

Funk Ark is a local “World Funk” band whom I’ve had the pleasure to see a few times around town. Last night they played a show at the Strathmore Mansion, in North Bethesda. (or south Rockville depending on where you’re from) This show, like their other show’s I’ve been to, was awesome. They’re a great group of musicians having fun and sounding great doing it. If you get a chance to go see them, jump on it!

I’m not a reviewer. So don’t read this as a review. It’s more like a description and suggestion.

I actually went in for the chicken so her strong arm tactics were  udderly unnecessary.

RIP Mack

February 23, 2011

He was so cute, and a little goofy. I remember the night Ray brought him home. Angel had protested right up till the end, but finally, he gave in. “Go get your dog”. Once home he seemed to belong there. He chased leaves in the wind and tripped all over himself! He was a huge puppy. They named him Mack.

Mack had an under bite that sometimes made him look like he was showing his teeth. He grew to 160lbs and would shake his head throwing slobber everywhere just like Hooch. But he was the most loving, kind, and gentle dog you’d ever meet. All Mack wanted was love, and he got plenty of it from the Maldonado family as well as everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting the gentle giant.

Rest in peace dear Mack, you touched my heart and will be missed.

Sundays Sometimes Suck

February 20, 2011

Since I was a kid I’ve suffered from what I would describe as the Sunday blues. It doesn’t usually hit me until the sun goes down but sometimes, Like today, it’s with me from the moment I get up. It’s an overwhelming feeling of depression and (here’s where it’s hard to explain) a feeling that nothing is ever going to be as good as it has been. I told you it’s  hard to explain. The rest of the week I’ll be fine, there’s something about Sunday, the end of the week. And it’s not every Sunday. Anyway, without health insurance all I can do is take vitamins, avoid Country music, and wait patiently for football season to return. Yay, Mondays almost here!

You’d Notice

February 19, 2011

Can most of us agree that Angelina Jolie is attractive? At the very least exotic? Could you say she’d stand out in a crowd? Even if you had never seen her in a movie I think you’d notice her walking down the Street. Can we agree on that? Who cares you say?

Well, I just watched her new movie “Salt”. In it she plays a C.I.A. agent/possible Russian agent. Several times during the movie she’s running and trying to hide from the people chasing her. In one scene she puts on a hat and calmly walks down the street with the crowd and no one even looks at her! Now, I love action, thrillers, Sci-fi, and I have no trouble suspending my disbelief…to a point.  But come on! Even if she were not famous she would get noticed, because a beautiful person would get noticed the same way a very tall person or a very small person would get noticed.

I’m no spy (too tall) but I think spies are supposed to blend in, not stand out. Why on earth would you cast someone so far above plain and then ask us to believe she’s not just a good spy but one of the C.I.A.’s best? Any number of attractive, but less exotic actresses could have easily elevated this movie to a higher level. I’m not saying it was a bad movie, it was good completely unrealistic entertainment, I’m just saying you’d notice.

Yeah, I wouldn’t look twice at her on a city bus.
