Are You Stupid?

March 20, 2012

I was browsing aimlessly and found an interesting article about how stupid American adults are.

According to the national survey commissioned (3 years ago) by the California Academy of Sciences:

  • Only 53% of adults know how long it takes for the Earth to revolve around the Sun.
  • Only 59% of adults know that the earliest humans and dinosaurs did not live at the same time.
  • Only 47% of adults can roughly approximate the percent of the Earth’s surface that is covered with water.
  • Only 21% of adults answered all three questions correctly.

I’m encouraged by this. I truly thought way more than half of adults were stupid.

Blue Moon

Big Moon, Mon!

March 20, 2011

The moon was supposed to be 22% bigger last night. It looked pretty big as it came up, but I was on the bike on the toll road and couldn’t safely pull off. By the time I got to my destination the Moon had gone from a giant yellow orb to, well… the Moon. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Moon. It’s the coolest thing in the night sky. It’s just that it looked like it always looks. If it was bigger, I couldn’t tell. Still, it was cool to look at.

Lunar Eclipse 2010

December 21, 2010

A lunar eclipse which falls on the date of the winter solstice, as last night’s did,  is very rare. The Last one occurred on DEC 21st 1638 and the next on will happen on DEC 21st 2094. According to NASA, Total lunar eclipses in northern winter are fairly common. There have been three of them in the past ten years and the next observable full Lunar eclipse will be April 15th 2014, At 7:45 PM. No Joke.

Here are 6 photos out of 80 that turned out pretty damn good.
