I’m a mac

August 20, 2012

I’ve been with Windows since Windows 3.0. I enjoyed Windows 95 and 98, suffered through Windows Me, and loved Windows Xp. I resisted Vista, but it won me over. I’ve had may PC’s over the years and the latest on came loaded with Windows 7. I do not like Windows 7. A few months ago I installed Windows 8 consumer evaluation copy. I absolutely hate it. It’s terrible. It seems to be completely designed for tablets. For a desktop, it is just horrible.

I’m a Graphic Designer and I’m comfortable with Windows. I’m also a big fan of Macs. I’ve owned 2 old iMacs, and when I went back to School to get my degree, the College had an awesome Mac lab stocked with smoking fast G5’s. I was in love.

Recently I had the good fortune to purchase a 6 month old Macbook Pro. It’s awesome! And fast! Everyday I’m learning more and loving it. That is until I decided to try the dictation app. This is the window that came up:

Why the hell would they need my contacts?!?

Anyway, I still love my Macbook pro.
Did I mention it has a back-lit keyboard?

Off With Their Thumbs!

April 13, 2011

I would love to personally remove the thumbs from the person responsible for the malicious code that has infected my computer. I have been struggling for the last few days to repair and recover my PC.

And if said person happens to read this…I wish you a prolonged and painful death. Fucker.

Let There Be Light

April 12, 2011

Some time ago I installed walkway/garden lights for my mom and dad. They love them. Recently it appeared that half of the lights were no longer working. Last night I stopped by and my Dad gave me a handful of bulbs. I fixed 4 out of 5 dark lights simply by changing the burned out bulbs. One light needed to be replaced completely. Years ago I bought some lights hoping to put some in my yard. Long story short, it never happened. They’ve been in my attic for at least 10 years. I have given the lights to my parents. (I will be installing them if it ever stops raining) The new lights are metal, and 18 – 20 watts as compared to the plastic 4watt lights they have now. I also will be installing rock lights.

Thanks Thomas The Tech

March 26, 2011

I’ve been working the last two or three weeks on rebuilding my website so I haven’t had much time to watch TV. A few nights ago I decided to take a break and catch up on some of the shows that I’ve recorded on my DVR. I’ve have one of Verizon’s new 500 GB DVR’s. I clicked on the DVR button and it said I had no recorded shows.

I’ll give you a moment to think about the shows you’d loose and how you’d feel if you found yourself in my shoes…

4 weeks of “Top Shot”, “Justified”, “Archer”, and “N.C.I.S.”, just to name a few, all gone!

I was pissed. I sighed and called Verizon resigned to the fact that I was going to be on hold for a long time. In my opinion, Verizon has the worst automated phone system I’ve ever been trapped in. Understand, I’ve got no problem with Verizon’s customer service “people”. I just think waiting 35 minutes to talk to a human being is unacceptable.

So 35 minutes and 3 transfers later got me to Derrick who, after trouble shooting to no avail, scheduled a Friday afternoon Service call.

Thomas, the Tech, showed up Friday afternoon. He checked the box, changed some wires, switched a splitter, inserted a dohicky, and hit record and like magic, it worked! He refused to accept my tip (I pressed him hard to accept it), gave me his card and told me to call him if I had any more issues with the box.

30 minutes later the DVR stopped recording and turned itself off. It ignored my command to power on. *sigh*

I called Thomas and he said he’d stop by Saturday morning and swap out the defective box for a new one. He did. The new box works fine so far.

Thanks Thomas. You’re the man.

Junk Out Your Trunk

March 21, 2011

No one but spammers like spam. So I’m happy that Rustock, a company responsible for almost half of the world wide spam, has been temporarily stopped. I say temporarilly because another group of dicks will probably step up to fill the void. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Microsoft, with the aid of the U.S. Marshals, went in with “a federal court order granting them permission to seize computers.”

I hate spam, truly, I get tons of them every day. But there’s something a little scary about this story. CNET News reported that seven hosting facilities across the country were raided and command-and-control machines were seized. It’s one thing to hear that a federal or state organization made a raid but Microsoft!?!

Spammers are bad, greedy, deceitful, selfish, dicks. I hope they go to jail for a very, very long time…if Microsoft’s DCU ever finds them.

iPad iEnvy

March 4, 2011

I want one. Truly. And, I know I would use it every day, and night, and morning and after lunch too. I’ve got friends who have them, and love them. My Uncle has one. The iPad 2 has  front and rear facing HD cameras, a dual core chip, so it’s twice as fast as the original. It’s also thinner and lighter. (drool) I want one.

I was watching Conan last night and he had a funny parody of Apple’s new product announcement video. You can see it here. You can see the original Apple video here.

Mom’s TV

February 15, 2011

Mom has always had an under counter radio. When it stopped working, Dad decided to get her a new and improved “Radio”. The new one is actually a TV, DVD, radio from Coby, bought on Amazon. Very nice Valentines Gift. I helped install it, and Mom is very happy to be able to cook and watch her shows.

Netflix Rocks!

January 9, 2011

Most people know by now you can subscribe to Netflix through most modern gaming systems. I don’t have a modern gaming system so it was a little while before I discovered Netflix. I had to replace my DVD player and the sales person talked me into buying a blue-ray player. It turns out, it connects to the internet. At the time I couldn’t justify paying for the wireless version so mine is a wired version.

Anyway, I hooked this thing up and Damn! For $9.99 a month I can watch almost anything instantly! Anything  not available instantly, I can have in my mailbox in 2 days! I’ve watched some of the coolest stuff like, All of the episodes of Bones, Battlestar Galactica,  Heroes, Fringe, NCIS, Mythbusters, most of the Law and Order shows, and old movies I haven’t seen in a long time, and movies I had never gotten around to see.

Current movies? Yep. 2012, the Surrogates,  Iron Man, Avatar, and many more. Not crap, though if you want crappy movies I’m sure they have those too. Bottom line? Get Netflix. You’ll wonder how you ever survived without it.

From my iphone

January 16, 2010

2nd day with the new blog. I was curious to try the WordPress app for the iPhone. I’m hoping to be able to blog from wherever I am. Well, let’s give it a try.

This is the house across the street. They have been using a backhoe since 7 am.
